Wireless Site Survey
You have been tasked by Seminole State College to set up a wireless network for the entire campus (you will be replacing the existing campus wireless network).
You will need to specify ALL of the necessary Access Points that Seminole will need to encompass the area that is inside the square.
The dimensions of the site are 2569ft x 2634ft (see diagram for details).

Wireless Site Survey You have been tasked by Seminole State College to set up a wireless network for the entire campus (you will be replacing the existing campus wireless network). You will need to specify ALL of the necessary Access Points that Seminole will need to encompass the area that is inside the square. The dimensions of the site are 2569ft x 2634ft (see diagram for details). Using the information that you acquired for lab 3, determine what equipment you will need and where it will be located to get maximum coverage. Remember that you need some overlap for the wireless coverage spaces so that there are no ??dead?? spots in the wireless coverage. The college wants to provide wireless in the parking lots so that students can easily gain access to resources as soon as they are on campus. What you will be turning in. -A list of the equipment that you will need for the wireless network (access points, repeaters, etc.). -A diagram of the coverage of the network (show the coverage of the access points). -A site survey of the existing wireless network (if you can do so on campus ?? if not then you can use your own building). -Lastly, how you would protect the wireless access for registered users and campus guests. If you do NOT have a wireless device, and can't do a survey of any location (doesn't have to be SSC), then you can do some research and write a 2 page paper on site surveys - what they are and how they are done.Explanation / Answer
Equipments Needed: Mainly 8- to 9 access points can cover this area. Power settings should be planned to allow future upgradations in network. Signals should be strong enough to overcome obstructions.
1. AC at access point locations:All the equipments will be powered by a dedicated 24 hour 120 VAC, 15 A AMP circuit, controlled by its own breaker. A filtered Uninterrupted Power source is needed. Electrical boxes should be mmounted so that transformer may be plugged in with proper weight balance. AP can utilize omni directional antennaes with 2.2 Dbi gain.
For each of 8 access points,
2. Power over ethernet is needed at the hub locations.
3. Each access point should be connected to wired network by UTP cable, from hub to the access point.
4. Each access point requires hub/ switch port that should be at 100 metre ethernet specification.
5. Use a better cable( 8 wire 100 base T specification) to support ethernet. Follow TIA/EIA cabling standards. Use a certified cabling contractor. Keep cables atleast 2 Feet away from fluoroscent light boxes or noise sources.
