Question

Why should it be that drugs such as colehicine that inhibit microtubule polymerization and drugs such as Taxol that stabilize microtubles both inhibit milosis? What are the similarities and differences between the reaction that lead to the activation of G protiens and the reactions that lead to the activation of Ras? Desribe the meechanism by which Bel-2 family proteins regulate apoplesis in mammalian cells? Notch signaling pathway is important during the development of neurel cells in Drosophi briefly describe how this pathway regulates gene expression. Be sure to include the signaling melocule in your answer.

Explanation / Answer

1. Taxol is an antimitotic agent which inhibits cell cycle in G1 or M phase by stabilising microtubules against depolymerisation. The microtubule infelxibilityprevent extension and retraction during cell divison. Taxol interacts with tubulin but not the filaments.

Colchicine interact with tubulin preventing the formation of microtubule and its polymerisation.
