Explanation / Answer
Cyclins are a group of proteins which facilitate the transition of cells through various stages of the cell cycle. They act by activating the enzymes called cyclin-dependent kinases or Cdks.
Cyclins have been divided into different classes such as G1/S cyclins, M cyclins and so on. The cyclin-Cdk complexes have a specific role during different stages of the cell cycle. They work in series one after the other and help to accomplish DNA replication, followed by mitosis and cell division. The cyclin-Cdk complexes need to undergo phosphorylation by specific kinases to become completely active.
M cyclin-Cdk complex comes into picture during mitosis where it promotes the formation of the spindle apparatus.
