Question
Wireless Information Systems: Research Paper
You are a Program Manager for Panther Industries, a Florida based company that develops software for several clients all over the world. Your management has tasked you to select a protocol architecture which will become the standard for your company. The two protocol architectures to be evaluated are OSI and TCP/IP. Your assignment is to write a research paper to compare and contrast these two protocol architectures, and to make a selection for your management.
Your proposal should have the following format:
Cover Page containing the following information:
The Title of the Research Paper
Your Name
The Date
The Panther Industries Logo (you may create one or modify one you find on-line)
Table of Contents
Introduction - Discusses the research paper, your company, and why you feel you are qualified to perform this research
Protocol Comparison – Discuss each protocol, and the components of each protocol, including examples of each component / layer
Summary – Summarize your research paper, select a winner, and explain the reasoning for your selection
Explanation / Answer
OSI
TCP/IP
1. OSI has layer functionality with each layer having its own work and task in a network.
1. TCP/IP is based on protocols and is more biased on working of protocols rather than layers present in it.
2. OSI model contains 7 layers for the network transmission.
2. TCP/IP contains 4 layers for the network transmission.
3. OSI model follows horizontal approach in its network transmission.
3. TCP/IP follows vertical approach in its network transmission.
4. OSI model has a separate layer for clients. It is known n as presentation layer.
4. TCP/IP does not have a separate presentation layer
5. OSI is a general model.
5. TCP/IP model cannot be used in any other application.
6. Network layer of OSI model provide both connection oriented and connectionless service.
6. The Network layer in TCP/IP model provides connectionless service.
7. OSI model has a problem of fitting the protocols in the model
7. TCP/IP model does not fit any protocol
8. Protocols are hidden in OSI model and are easily replaced as the technology changes.
8. In TCP/IP replacing protocol is not easy.
9. OSI model defines services, interfaces and protocols very clearly and makes clear distinction between them.
9. In TCP/IP it is not clearly separated its services, interfaces and protocols.
10. In OSI model the transport layer guarantees the delivery of packets
10. In TCP/IP model the transport layer does not guarantees delivery of packets
