Hello, I am having some difficulty with a few questions reguarding my homework and was wondering if anyone could help me out with the following questions.

Q8. Compare and contrast the unified process and ASAP methodology. How could the unified process be applied to the SAP implementation group project? Provide as much detail as possible.

The unified modeling language (UML) is standard graphical language intended to be used for modeling business and various processes, analysis, design and implementation of information system in the organization. UML is mainly used for business analysts and software developers used to describe, specify, design, and document existing or new business processes.

The UML provides good guidance to the team members and assigns the tasks of individual developers. It is also used to supervise the project’s products and services. UML should be used at implementation stage using a live code and model synchronization not only at requirement level which requires too much investment for a small return in productivity and quality.

UML notation can be useful during the requirements gathering stage. For instance, use case diagrams will show the users what they must do and what the system will do for them. They can also be used as the basis for testing the application (creation of test plans) and development of user guides.

A Greenfield project is a new environment, without concern for integrating with other systems in software development. It handles higher risks when developing a process. Pre-packaged software configuration projects (SAP ERP) used in companies need to maintain their competitive edge and due to they are lead to believe a best practices application will lead them in the right direction. However, there are better choices which do not cause the software companies to lose their valuable time and money hassling with the pre-packaged software.

Plan and use technology strategically as part of organization’s practice groups. Business strategic planning must be focused on understanding their processes and achieve their goals. Information Technology (IT) focuses secondary activities such as identify gaining competitive advantages and are planning accordingly. It aligns business goals with IT.

The strategy allows a company to position itself effectively within its environment to reach its maximum potential, while constantly monitoring that environment for changes that can affect it so as to make changes in its strategic plan accordingly. In short, strategy defines where you are, where you are going, and how you are going to get there.                                   

The professional strategy is just like companies and teams set quarterly growth targets and business development goals, set aside some time to take a holistic look at where you are now versus where you want to be. There are four key categories that your professional development strategy should focus on: knowledge, skills, talent, and experience.

The unified process is iterative and it follows the general phases of inception. ASAP (Accelerated SAP) is increasingly being used in all, project management practices. The whole idea of ASAP is leveraging the extensive experience with SAP techniques and create a knowledge base that shares the roadmap to best practice. ASAP simplifies complex issues in organizations.    

Rational Unified process is basically divided into four phases. They are Inception, elaboration, construction, and transition.

Decision support system (DSS) is a computer-based information system that supports business decision-making activities. DSS covers a wide variety of systems, tools, and technologies.

DSS can speed collaboration when there are several decision makers who must be satisfied. It provides a facility the multiple users with access to the firm's data. DSS includes the report-writing feature, thus enabling users to translate raw data into a form useful for decision support.

Corporate strategy is based on knowing. Where your organization is today, where you want it to be, how you want to get there. The corporate strategy defines the markets and the businesses in which an organization chooses to operate.

Gathering requirements are conducted a brainstorming session, interview users, work in the target environment, study systems, study improvements, conduct collaborative workshops, demonstrate prototypes to stakeholders, and examine suggestions.
