Question

Throughout this course we understood that testing is one of the important steps in maintaining software quality. In order to accomplish this process, we must establish test plan and its associated elements such as: a) establish objectives for each test phase, b) establish schedules and responsibilities for each test activity, c) determine availability of tools, facilities, and test libraries, and finally d) establish procedures, standards and benchmarks to be used for planning and conducting the tests and reporting the test results. In your own words, state, who is responsible for performing the above functions and in detail describes what the purpose and need of each function is in the software testing process.

Explanation / Answer

Quality is everyone's responsibility including software development methodologies.Quality assurance staff members or software quality assurance personnel as applicable are responsible for performing functions and tasks that contribute to the quality of the processes and products on the project.performance of this task can include writting the formal quality assurance plan, maintaining the defect and incident tracking systems, monitoring peer reviews including inspections.,developing and publishing metrices, assisting in risk management.software quality managemnet describes the processes that ensures that software project would reach its goals i.e meet clients expectations.management has following three catagories.

1 ) Quality plaining:    quality planing is one of the most important parts of software quality management.it is the start of the activity of SQM.through proper planing we can ensure that the processes that make a prodct are audited correctly to meet overall project objective.the start of quality plaining process is different for different organisations.the plaining stage has following inputs.

various tools and techinques are used to create the quality plan.some of them are described as follows:

Benchmark: deciding on the present product standards by compairing with the performances of similar products which is already exist in the market.

Cost of quality: the total cost of quality is a summation of prevention, apprasial and failure costs.

Design of experiments: statistical data can be used to determine the factors influencing the quality of the product.

2) Quality Assurance: quality plan which is created during planing is input to quality Assurance process.the assurance stage is having folowing inputs 1.Quality Audits 2. various techniques to evaluate performance of the project.Quality assurance helps us to ensure that the project is following the quality management plan.the tools and techniques are used as flow characteristics ,design of experiments, cause and effect diagrams.

3) Qulaity control: the quality control have following inputs:'

Quality management plan, quality standards of the project, actusl observations and measurements of the work done or work in progress. quality control process also uses various tools to observe and measure if work is done or not. if the work done and it is found not satisficatory then it can be send back to team for further fixes.otherwise accepted and released to the clients.Documentation is also precieved as the integral part of the of SQM.
