Question
Based on Le Chatalier's Principle, and Studing of howstressing second equilibrium can affect an equilibrium, using thefollowing equilibrium systems Ba+2 + CrO-2 BaCl4 2CrO-2 + 2H+ Cr2O7-2 + H2O Color of BaCrCl4 percipiate is lightyellow/white When Ba(NO3)2 was added, the percipitate wasformed yellow solid with white percipitate. The solid was dissolvedafter adding the base again, then it turned yellow again a) explain what happend when acid is added. b) explain what happened when base is added Based on Le Chatalier's Principle, and Studing of howstressing second equilibrium can affect an equilibrium, using thefollowing equilibrium systems Ba+2 + CrO-2 BaCl4 2CrO-2 + 2H+ Cr2O7-2 + H2O Color of BaCrCl4 percipiate is lightyellow/white When Ba(NO3)2 was added, the percipitate wasformed yellow solid with white percipitate. a ) When acid is added to the aboveCrO4-2 solution it turns into dichromatewhich is orange in color. That is w.r.t to the second equation. 2CrO4-2 + 2H+ Cr2O7-2 + H2O According to Lechatelier's principle when the concentration ofreactant or product increases then equilibrium shifts in thatdirection that consumes the excess reagent. Here H+ ions concentration increases as the acid isadded . So its concentration is reduced by cinsumption andformation of the dichromate. Change in color indicates thetransition . b) When base is added to the above solution , again formationof chromate in yellow color is obseved.Related Questions
