Question
0 = G0 - RT ln KG = -RT ln K
ln K = G/-RT
is that correct? the right side should be negative,correct? because i need a value for Ksp (for AgCl) and i keepcoming up with a hugely positive answer and i know the answer is1.8*10-10. i feel like i am making a mistake witha negative here, because if i just leave the whole right sidepositive, i come up with the right answer. But the -55584 isdefinitely right, can anyone see what i am doing wrong?
ln K = (-55584 Jmol-1) /(-8.31Jmol-1K-1 )(298K)
ln K = 22.4
e 22.4 = 5.3*10 9 no!!!
please help!
Explanation / Answer
We Know that : The Reaction is : Ag+(aq.) + Cl- (aq.) -------> AgCl(s) Grxn. = Gprod. - Greac. = - 109.79 KJ / mol - ( 77.11 + (-131.23) ]KJ / mol = - 55.67 KJ / mol WE Know that For the Calculation of Ksp weconsider the decompositiion of AgCl so the Reverse Reactionis favoured. AgCl (s) < ---------> Ag+ + Cl- G = + 55.67 KJ / mol G = + 55.67 KJ / mol We Know that : G = - 2.303 x R x T x log K +55.67 * 103 J / mol = -2.303 x 8.314 J / mol-K x 298 K x log K K = 1.751 x 10-10Related Questions
