Question
Help on any of the four questions would be appreciated:1) Describe how you would separate a mixture of ironpellets, KBr, and sand. Will you be using chemicalmethods? Explain.
2) Describe two methods to separate a mixture ofnaphthalene, KCl, and sand. Will you be usingchemical methods? Explain.
3) Describe two methods to separate a mixture of AmmoniumChloride, NaCl, and sand. Will you be using chemicalmethods? Explain.
4) Without using any of the mixtures mentioned in questions 1-3,propose a mixture of three materials that can beseparated by a combination of both chemical and physicalmethods. Describe the separation indetail.
Explanation / Answer
We Know that : 1. Iron pellets can be separated by the magnetic seperation method themixture of KBr and sand can be separated by Filtirationtechnique. 2. Napthalene and the mixture can be separated by Sublimation themixture of KCl and sand can be separated by solventextraction method here we use the suitable solvent as water inwhich KCl is soluble and sand remains insoluble. 3. Ammoniumchloride and the mixture can be separated by Sublimation themixture of NaCl and sand can be separated by solventextraction method here we use the suitable solvent as water inwhich NaCl is soluble and sand remains insoluble . In the above procedure we can use even chemical methods of Electrolysis when we subject to electricity the components of KCl and NaCl undergoes electrolysis to give the respectiveproducts.Related Questions
