Question
The reaction of the formation of nitryl fluoride,2NO2 (g) + F2 (g) Right left harpoons 2NO2F(g) is first order inNO2 and first order in F2. Ifthe concentration of NO2 was increased by half and theconcentration of F2 was quadrupled, by what factor would thereaction rate increase?

Explanation / Answer
I hate to say it but Huckel is wrong. Take it step by step. If NO2 is increased by 1/2 then the reaction rate is increased byhalf. The reaction rate was initially 2 so the reaction wouldincrease by 1 (since half of 2 is 1) Thus leaving ourreaction rate at 3 after the increase in NO2. THEN, F2 was quadrupled so our reaction rate of 3 wouldquadruple 3*4=12 so our final reaction rate would be at12. In order to find what FACTOR it increased by you simply take thefinal rate (12) and divide it by the initial rate (2) and you haveyour factor which is 6. Because 12 / 2 = 6.
