Question
Which of the following are valid transitions that produce lines inthe emission spectrum of Zn[Ar]4s^1 3d^10 6s^1 ---> [Ar]4s^2 3d^10 [Ar]4s^2 3d^10--->[Ar] 3d^10 [Ar]4s^2 3d^10--->[Ar]4s^2 3d^10 4p^2
This problem is due Monday and is giving me a lot of trouble,so much I'm losing sleep at night over it. Will rate high for anyone that can explain it for me.
Thanks :)

Explanation / Answer
[Ar]4s^1 3d^10 6s^1 ---> [Ar]4s^2 3d^10 is the only answer. emission goes from higher energy state to a lower energy state, but you still have the same amount of electrons.
--the second one goes to a lower energy state but it loses electrons
--the third one gains electrons
