Question

Additional Exercise 10.110 Incorrect. A mixture was prepared in a 6 °C and 700 torr) and 515 mL of H2 (measured at 41.6 °C and 1310 torr). The mixture was ignited and the H2 and 02 reacted to form water. What was the final pressure inside the reaction vessel after the reaction was over if the temperature was held at 124 °C? S00 mL reaction vessel from 273 mL of o2 (measured at 22 2.87 atm Use correct number of significant digits; the tolerance is +/-5% Click if you would like to Show Work for this question: Open Show Work LINK TO TEXT

Explanation / Answer

NO of mol of O2 added = PV/RT

                     = ((700/760)*0.273)/(0.0821*(22.6+273.15))

                     = 0.0103 mol

NO of mol of H2 added = PV/RT

                     = ((1310/760)*0.515)/(0.0821*(41.6+273.15))

                     = 0.0343 mol

2H2(g) + O2(g) ---> 2 H2O(g)

2 mol H2 = 1 mol O2 = 2 mol H2O

LIMITING REACTANT = o2

NO of mol of water formed = 0.0103*2 = 0.0206 mol

NO of mol of H2 excess = (0.0343-(0.0103*2)) = 0.0137 mol

total no of mol of haseous mixture present after completion of reaction

        = 0.0206 + 0.0137 = 0.0343 mol

pressure of mixture(P) = nRT/V

                       = 0.0343*0.0821*(124+273.15)/0.5

                       = 2.24 atm
