Answer

4. NaCl

The number of Cl-ions in the unit cell of FCC = 4

Explanation:

In NaCl, Cl- ions hace FCC arrangement, where Cl- are present at the corners and at the center of each face. As, there are 8 corners and 6 faces, an atom present at the corner will be shared by 8 unit cell. therefore, the contribution of each atom at the corner is 1/8. An atom at the face will be shared by 2 unit cells. Hence, each atom on face will be contributing 1/2. There are 6 faces.

No. of Cl- ions = 8*1/8 +6 * 1/2 = 4

No of Na ions on the edges of cell = 1/4 at each edge shared by 12 edges = 1/4*12 = 3

(Each edge of the cube is shared by four other cubes, so there is 1/4 of a sodium ion at each edge. There are 12 edges in the cell).

No of Na ions in the center of cell = 1 shared by none = 1.

Total Number of Na ions = 4
