Question
We have a binary distillation column. The feed flow rate, F and the mole fraction of the most volatile compound in the feed, z, and the initial feed temperature are constant. The column pressure, p, and the distillate and bottoms mole fractions are constant. The reflux is a saturated liquid at 1.2 times the minimum reflux ratio. A heat exchanger uses waste heat, Qw, to heat the feed. As Qw increases, does (L/D)min do? what does q (feed quality) do? not enough information
decrease
stay constant
increase
Explanation / Answer
As, Qw increases, heat increase, and so, the feed will be heated more.
As feed is heated more, the liqiud part of feed in coloum will be less. It will be less because liquid feed will convert into vapour feed. Therefore, the feed mixture will have more less liquid then previous.
Feed Quality (q) decreases as vapour content increases. Therefore, q will decrease.
