Calculate the equilibrium constant for the reaction Q.10 2H,O HOOH at 25°C. Q.11 At 25°C the value of K for the equilibrium Fe3+ Ag Fe2+ +Agt is 0.53 1mol/litre. The standard electrode potential for AgeAg is 0.799V. What is the standard potential for Fe e Fe2+? For the reaction, 4A1(s) + 30,(g) + 6H2O + 4 OH-# 4 [Al(OH).] ; ? Eeell_ 2.73 V. If [Al (OH),1. Q.12 (OH-) = 157 kJ mo 1-1 and AG f (H2O)--23 7.2 kJ mol-1, determine ? VMC

Explanation / Answer

Ans 3

Concentration of zinc solution = 0.1 M

% salt dissociated = 20% = 0.20

Concentration of Zn2+ = 0.1 x 0.20 = 0.020 M

The reduction reaction

Zn2+ + 2e- = Zn

E°cell = - 0.76 V

From the Nernst equation

E = E°cell - (0.0591/2) x log (1/[Zn2+])

= - 0.76 - (0.0591/2) x log (1/0.020)

= - 0.76 - (0.0591/2) x 1.69897

= - 0.76 - (0.0502)

= - 0.8102 V
