The Ca -OH bond is composed of sp-sp hybrid orbitals m. The Ca-OH bond is composed of sp-sp hybrid orbitals n. The C -OH bond is composed of sp-sp hybrid orbitals o. The c,-0H bond is a sipna bond p. The , -OH bond is a pi bond 28. Which is true of OH in species 1? a. it leaves as HO b. It leaves as HO c. It leaves as HO' d. It leaves as radical hydroxide e. It leaves as radical hydroxyl f. it leaves as water

Explanation / Answer

Since your picture is not clear I am not able to make out different notations for C atom. Therefore I am answering for the features of C-OH bond in this reaction.

Ques 28. 1. The C-OH bond is a polar covalent bond due to differences in electronegativity between C and O atom.

2. The C-OH bond is a sigma bond formed by the head on an overlap of p orbitals of sp3 hybridized orbital of C atom and sp3 hybridized orbital of O atom.

3. According to the molecular orbital theory the orbitals involved in the formation of C-OH bond is C sigma and OH sigma* orbital.

28. The leaving group in the above reaction is a water molecule. The OH group act as nucleophile due to partial negative charge and it will take a proton from the phosphoric acid thus forming a hydronium ion which is slightly destabilized due to partial positive charge on O. Therefore inorder to remove instability the bond between C and hydronium ion breaks thus forming water molecule which is a stable molecule.
