Mutiple choice . Please help answer question 1 to 3, thank you.
1. Which of the following is falso concerning the denaturing of proteins.
a. Heavy metal can denature proteins by forming bonds with negatively charged side chains .
b. Denaturing breaks apart the amino acids that make up the protein.
c.Detergents ,organic solvents ,and heat break apart hydrogen bonding within proteins.
d.Denaturing can occur by changiing the pH.
e.Denaturing breaks the weaker hydrogen which creates the secondary and tertiary folds.
2. Which of the following processes would be called active transport?
a. The transport of a molecule from high to low concentration across a membrane through large protein molecules in the membrane.
b.The non -specific transport of a molecule across a membrane from high to low concentration.
c.The transport of a molecule from low to high concentration across a membrane using a molecule -specific protein pump powdered by ATP.
3.Criticl thinking question :
Compare the process of facilitated diffusion through a channel and by a carrier protein. Whic might be faster ,and why?
Explanation / Answer
1) Which of the following is falseconcerning the denaturing of proteins.
Answer is - a) Heavy metal can denature proteins by forming bonds with negatively charged side chains
2. Which of the following processes would be called active transport?
Answer is c.The transport of a molecule from low to high concentration across a membrane using a molecule -specific protein pump powdered by ATP.
3. Compare the process of facilitated diffusion through a channel and by a carrier protein. Whic might be faster ,and why?
Diffusion through channel is facilitated by its strcuture. This allows molecules to pass through. Carrier protein binds to a particular molecule and speeds up the diffusion and changes its shape to release the molecule after entering the membrane. Hence carrier - mediated transport involves a series of steps and is of lower speed than the normal simple diffusion.
