Question

For each molecule/formula unit shown in the top row of the table, answer the questions in the left column of the table. 3. K-S-K Cl-cl are e shared or transferred to form this bond? # of e-transferred (if e are shared, write "n/a") Draw a Lewis Structure for each molecule. Show all electrons (even lone pairs). Circle any atoms that DO NOT have a full octet. Does the molecule have polar or non- polar bonds? If polar, draw a polarity arrow over the bond in your Lewis structure. Also, use + and - notation to indicate olarit

Explanation / Answer

When there is large difference in the electronegativity between the atom , one which is having high electronegativity will accept the electron one which is having low electronegativity (high electro positivity) transfer the outer electron

When there is less difference in the electro negativity they prefer to form covalent bond by sharing the electron ( all the nuclear molecule)

In Lewis dot sructure , dots around the atom represents the valence electrons .

Polarity again depends on electro negativity head of the arrow should be above the more electro negative atom , tale on electro positive atom

In polar covalent bonelectrons in the bond are more nearer to the more electro negative atom indicated by Delta minus . Another atom is indicated by Delta positive ( electron density is less)
