Question
MATH AND PHYSICS Understanding how electrostatic forces cancel Each sketch below shows three objects with an electric charge. In each case, decide whether there is a net force acting on the object outlined in green. If there is a net force, decide whether it pushes the green-ring object to the left or right. Then select the appropriate button under the sketch. For example, if there is a net force pushing the green-ring object in the first sketch to the left, select the left button under the first sketch. If there is no net force on the green-ring object in the second sketch, select the middle button under the second sketch. And so on.Explanation / Answer
the force between opposite charges is attractive and is inversly propotinal to radius square and directly propotinal to charge.
in object 1,the left side is nearer comared to right side charge so, it attracts the negative charge towards its side and hence net force is in the direction of left side
in object 2,the charge on right side is nearer and attracts it towards it self and hence the net force is in the direction of right side
in object 3, the charge on right side is more than left side So, the ratio q/r^2 is more for right and hence the net force is in right direction.
