Laboratory Questions Circle the questions that have been assigned. 1. Identify a chemical reagent used in this 2. What test reagent used in this experiment will distinguish a soluble CI salt from a soluble SO, sal? What is the 3. Predict what would be observed (and why) from an aqueous mixture for each of the following (all substances are water experiment that can be used to distinguish solid Cacia (soluble) from solid CaCO, (insoluble). What is the distinguishing observation? distinguishing observation? soluble). a. potassium carbonate and hydrochloric acid b. zinc chloride and silver nitrate c. magnesium chloride and sodium hydroxide d. ammonium nitrate and sodium hydroxide

Explanation / Answer

1) the chemical reagent used in this experiment that would distinguish CaCl2( soluble ) form CaCO3 ( insoluble ) would be hydrochloric acid.if HCl is added to CaCO3 will fizz and CaCl2 will not.therefore, the distinguish observation would be fizzing which indicates the creation of gas.

2) the test reagent AgNO3 can distinguish this difference, because when it was added to NaCl and NH4Cl a reaction occured which produced a precipitate in the solution, mean while when it was added to MgSO4 ,no reaction occured.this distinguished the cl^- salts from the SO4 salts

3) a) the reaction would create a 2KCl(aqueous) and H2CO3(solid) solution,so we would observe a precipitate

b)  the reaction would create a ZN(NO3)2 (aqueous) and 2AgCl (solid) solution,so a precipitate would be observed

c)  the reaction would create a Mg(oh)2 (solid) and 2NaCl (aqueous) solution,so a precipitate would be observed
