Question

the average reservoir pressure of gas in example 5-12 is 9500 psig. the gas is produced into the wellbore through perforations from this reservoir pressure to a flowing bottom hole pressure of 8200 psig will the temperature of gas increase or decrease?

I think example 5-12 is just a reference but ya please tell me why increase or decrease???

Explanation / Answer

In a real scenario, Temeprature should decrease. The reason is as following:

whenever their is a flsahing or reduction in pressure from one point to another, vapor fraction of the stream increases ( because at lower pressure, more moilecules will beinto vapor phase), Due to vaporization of molecules, heat of vaporization should come from somewhere. This heat comes from the sensible heat of the overall stream which ultimately results into reduction of temperature of stream.
