Which of the following will increase the value of the equilibrium constant for the following reaction?

CaCO3(s) ? CaO(s) CO2(g) ?H = 178kJ

I know temperature is the only variable that can change the equilibrium constant. However, the correct answer keeps showing as increasing the temperature.

This reaction, however, is endothermic, which means the heat is theoretically a reactant.

It seems intuitive, then, to assume that increasing temperature means decreasing the value of the equilibrium constant. Am I wrong? How can increasing the temperature in an endothermic reaction possible increase the value of the equilibrium constant?

Explanation / Answer

An endothermic reaction absorbs heat. Thus if more heat is provided to it, it will be faster. If it is faster, products will be formed at a higher rate and hence equilibrium constant will be more. Thus if we increase temperature, we provide more heat and hence eq. constant is increased.
