Tay - Sachs disease is a genetic disorder with defective gene encoding enzyme hexaminidase. This enzyme is required to clear accumulation of unwanted fatty bodies. In absence of enzyme or defective enzyme the fat bodies accumulate in brain causing disabilities of hearing, vision and other mental functions. Couple with child having Tay - Sachs disease are given counselling for bringing up the child. The genetic counsellor should give all the safety measures and children are treated with care to make them learn. Frequent genetic testing and proper medication for subside the pains and muscle spasms are suggested. The couples are suggested to undergo genetic testing for having next child to predicted to be healthy.
