LiOH ---> Li+ + OH- The hydroxide ion will react with the hydronium ion (H+) and thelithium ion will act as a spectator ion until the carbonate ion isformed, which will then precipate out of solution with the lithiumion. H+ + HCO32- + OH- ----> 2H2O + CO32- Therefore the overall reaction is: H2CO3- + 2LiOH --->Li2CO3 + 2H2O or if you take the HCO32- ion breaking down toCO2 + H2O the final equation is: CO2 + 2LiOH ---> Li2CO3 +H2O
