Question

A sodium hydroxide solution was prepared by transferring 0.4063g toa 100ml volumetric flask and diluting the solution to the mark. A10ml aliquot of this solution was transferred to a 50ml volumetricflask and the solution we diluted to the mark. Calculatethe concentration of the final sodium hydroxide solution inmolarity and w/v% units.

Explanation / Answer

This is the same as a similar question you asked. Find the mols of NaOH. Note that it dissociates 1:1. 0.4063g * (1 mol / 40.00g) = 0.010158 mols Dilute to 100mL C = 0.010158 mols / 0.100 L = 0.101575 M Take a 10mL aliquot; find mols in aliquot n = 0.101575 M * 0.010 L = 0.001016 mols Dilute aliquot to 50mL C = 0.001016 mols / 0.050 L = 0.02315M Convert to weight/volume % using the molar weight of40.00g/mol
