The anode, with Mg metal, is consumed, so it getssmaller. Reaction at cathode: Zn2+(aq) + 2e- ----->Zn(s)     Net reaction: Mg + Zn2+ --->Mg2+ + Zn Cell potential: 2.37 + (-0.76) = 1.61 V
