Question

write the net ionic equation for: 2HBr(aq) + Ca(OH)2 (aq) -----> CaBr2 (aq) + 2H2O (l)

Explanation / Answer

A net ionic equation is one where you express all reactants and products as the ions dissolved in the solution. (ex HBr --> H+ + Br-) so the regular equation is the one you wrote = 2HBr(aq) + Ca(OH)2(aq) -->2H2O(l) + CaBr2(aq) the complete ionic equation would be = 2H+ + 2Br- + Ca2+ + 2OH- --> 2H2O + Ca2+ + 2Br- to go from complete ionic to net ionic you get rid of spectator ions(ions that are the same on both sides) net ionic = 2H+ + 2OH- --> 2H2O the reason i didn't write the other ions is because they remained in ion form but the H+ and the OH- reacted to form liquid water.
