Question
solid KF has a lattice energy of 804kj/mol and a heat ofsolution in water of -15 kj/mol. RbF has a lattice energy of 768kj/mol and a heat of solution in water of -24 kj/mol whcihsalt forms stronger attractions with water? a)kf since it has larger lattice energy RBF ( WHAT IS RBF) SINCE IT has smaller lattice energy KF SINCE IT HAS more negative heat of hydration or RBF SINCE IT has more negative heat of hydrationor they form equally strong attractions with water sincethey both have negative heats of mixing can you please explain and answer thank you solid KF has a lattice energy of 804kj/mol and a heat ofsolution in water of -15 kj/mol. Heat of Hydration of KFis ,H KF = Hl +H s= -804 + (-15)
= -819 kJ/mol
Heat of Hydration of RbFis ,H RbF = Hl +H s
= -768 + (-24)
= -792 kJ/mol
Among KF & RbF , KF has a more heat of hydration.(Weconsider only the magnitude not the sign. The sign is taken for ourconsideration in order for doing calculations )
Since more energy is released when KF is dissolved in water(i.e., ) it reacts more with water than that of RbF
RbF is nothing but Rubidium Fluoride.
