Question
EA +A.az = Er ; 1rn v22 ; mgh ; ks2 ;-Y" ; Fr- Trapeze Artiste "A";, Bozo "B", and guy(82 kg each) stand with c.om. 9m abone the for “A" swings gracefully on an 8m rope, so his feet reach the floor with honzontal velocity. -B" misses his rope and falls straight down into a barrel of water (surface 1m above floor) 1) Calculate Bozo's KE and velocity as he reaches the water. 2) Calculate Artiste's KE and momentum as he reaches the floor (c.o.m. 1 m above floor). 3) What friction Force would be able to stop Artiste gracefully in 12 meters? guy "C" swings on his rope like "A", but enters a "cannon barrel" with a spring inside. 4) What spring stiffiess is needed, to compress 3m while stopping the cannon guy? 5) What maximum Force does cannon-guy experience in the cannon barrel? 6) An atom has 0 atr 0.4Inm] in PE function ) P a) Draw the Force arrow applied to the atom, there. 16 b) the atom will have maximum KE at r c) estimate that maximum KE- d) the atom will experience the strongest Force at, -- e) estimate that strongest Force (include units!): -2 -3Explanation / Answer
1)
B's KE = Change in PE from height 9 m to 1m ====> KE = mg*9 - mg*1 => KE = 6435.36 Joules
Therefore, velocity v =( (2*KE) / m )0.5 = v => 12.5283 m/s
2) Artiste's KE and v will be same as that of Bozo's
ence momentum of Bozo = mv => 1027.3216 kgm/s
3) To stop the Artiste, the KE of artiste has to be consumed by the friction force by doing work ( W = Fx)
==> KE = Fx ====> F = 536.28 N
4)
Assuming that guy C also lands in the canon with horizontal velocity only,
PE at height 9 m = KE at height 1 m and PE at height 1 m ( Because the length of the rope is 8 m )
mg*9 - mg*1 = 0.5*m*v2 =====> v = 12.5283 m/s ( g = 9.81 m/s2 )
Now to stop this guy C, the KE possessed by this guy has to be absorbed by the spring by compressing 3 meters
==> KE = SPE ====> 0.5*m*v2 = 0.5*k*x2 ====> k = 1430.0645 N/m
5) Maximum force experienced by canon guy is from the compressed spring.
==> F = kx = 4290.1935 N
