Replacement Reactions Not all combinations of compounds will react. In the lab you will observe several different chemical combinations to determine whether or not a reaction has taken place. Double displacement reactions usually involve one of the following: 1) formation of a gas, or bubbles; 2) the formation of a precipitate, or solid; and 3) the formation of water, H20. Look for these signs in the laboratory. It is also possible to predict whether or not a reaction will take place based on the water solubility's of the expected products. Insoluble products would be precipitates! Complete the possible double displacement reaction. List the expected products in the table above. Using the solubility rules on the next page determine the water solubility of each expected product. Record the solubility of each expected in the table below. If both expected products are water soluble than no reaction occurs. If at least one product is insoluble than this will form a ppt and the reaction will occur.Explanation / Answer
