Really need some detailed steps and why please help

In broad daylight, an ice cube at -20 degree C is added to a glass of water at room temperature and eventually the ice cube melts. Describe this situation and process using the following terms: System, Surroundings, Heat, Temperature, Thermal equilibrium, Law of conservation of energy. Define the system and the surroundings, and then describe the process explicitly. Underline each of the aforementioned terms in your description and be sure the meaning of each term is clear in your description. This question will be graded thoroughly for correct use and context of the terms.

Explanation / Answer

system = ice cubes

surrounding = water

heat is absorbed by ice ( system) while heat is lost by water ( surroundings)

hence according to Law of conservation of energy

heat gained by ice = heat lost by water

specic heat of ice x temp change x mass of ice = specific heat of water x temp change x mass

S x m x ( Tf-(-20)) = S(wter) x m x ( T(water) -Tf)

Thus both system and surrounding approach same final temperature Tf .

Later system remians in thermal equilirbium ( i.e heat lost = heat gained by system and surroundigs)
