Question
As a post lab question, they ask us to write the balanced redox reaction (in a basic solution) between glucose (C6H12O6) and Ferricyanide ion (Fe(CN)^{3-}_{6}) . Ferricyanide is the oxiding agent and glucose is the reducing agent. I was able to figure out the first half reaction in its balanced form. (e^{-}+Fe(CN)^{3-}_{6}--> Fe(CN)_{6}^{4-}) I am having trouble figuring out the balanced half reaction for glucose. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Explanation / Answer
C6H12O6+ H2O + 2e- <=> C6H12O7+ 2H+
Fe(CN)64-<=> Fe(CN)63-+ e-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
C6H12O6+ 2Fe(CN)64-+ H2O <=> C6H12O7+ 2H+ + Fe(CN)63-
