Question

PAPER entitled :”A TATA Element Is Required for tRNA Promoter Activity and Confers TATA-binding Protein Responsiveness in Drosophila Schneider-2 Cells”. What’s the big deal?

A)TATA elements are a bacterial element, so should not be present in Drosophila

B)TATA elements are not normally responsible for TATA-binding Protein Responsiveness

C)tRNA are continuously transcribed, so they don’t have a TATA element

D)tRNA have a promoter, but it does not normally have a TATA element

E)Actually, there is no big deal at al., and I bet this article was published in a journal with a very low impact factor

Explanation / Answer

The answer must be tRNA have a promoter, but it does not normally have a TATA element The tRNA' s promoter's activity is increased by binding of the TATA box with TBP protein which increases the recruitment of transcription factor and ultimately transcription. previously studies in yeast shown that TATA element is not required for transcription of tRNA genes but now atleast in insect cells it is found that this TATA box binding with TBP must be needed for transcription. Hence it must be option D.
