5. There is heavy precipitation in the states of Louisiana, Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Hawaii. Hawaii is the overall rainiest state in US where the average rainfall is 63.7 inches. Since the climate of Hawaii is dominated by moisture laden air which derive their moisture from the oceans and these air releases a large amount of moisture in the from of precipitation on the windward side of island, on the other side there is a rain shadow. The Paikau Mauka on the eastern coast of island gets rainfall of about 202 inches of rain annually whereas the rainfall drops to about 11 inches at Kona village on the western shore of island.
Here the orographic precipitation takes place when due to mountains or island which act as barrier to the air moving and force it to rise. In this case the air rises adiabatically and form clouds and hence precipitation occurs. The precipitation is mainly found along the windward side of mountains lying across the path of the winds.
4. Though DDT has been banned in many countries. About 160 million pounds of DDT have been manufactured in US only. In the 1950s and 60s when the DDT use was widespread, the glaciers swelled and locked a significant amount of DDT within it. The average temperature of glacier in the Antarctic Peninsula has increased by 6 degree celsius since the past 30 years and now its melting. So the melting of glaciers are introducing into the ecosystem 1-4 kg DDT per year. So the glacier has high DDT as compared to the river water.
