Directions: On this sheet of paper, encode the following into a METAR or SPECI report. Be neat, orderly, and precise. Partial credit is always given, but that also means that I can't give any credit if you don't write anthing You contract observer at Lambert Field in St. Louis and the Asos is on the f are the You have compiled all of the following information and must now encode the observation. Date 2137 CST Time: 22 C. Temp Dew Point: 17°C. 12 knots with gusts to 24 kt rom 310e Winds: 5 miles Visibility Rain and mist Weather: Sky Condition Broken layer at 1,200, overcast layer at 2,100 29.73" Altimeter setting: Encode it here:Explanation / Answer
Following a generic example METAR observation:
METAR CCCC DDGGggZ AUTO/COR dddffGggKT vvSM ww NNNhhh TT/DD Apppp RMK
METAR: Identifies the text as METAR observation
CCCC: unique four-letter identifier denoting the location of the observation
DDGGggZ: time of the observation. DD represents the two-digit date of the month, GGgg is the four-digit time. Z denotes the Zulu time (equivalent to UTC)
AUTO/COR: denoted whether the observation is an automated or manually-corrected observation
dddffGggKT: wind direction (ddd), wind speed (ff), wind gust (Ggg, where gg is the gust speed). The KT represents the wind and gust speed are in kt (knots)
vvSM: current surface visibility (vv) in statute miles (SM)
ww: sensible weather type
NNNhhh: cloud coverage (NNN) and height (hhh in hundreds of feet above the surface)
TT/DD: two-digit temperature and dew point separated by / in Celsius
Apppp: current altimeter (A) or sea level pressure pppp in inches of mercury times 100
RMK : remarks (precipitation discriminator AO1/AO2; sea-level pressure in hPa times 10 SLP###; surface temperature and dew point in Celsius multiplied by 10 Ttttdddd)
