Consider the following lab data, gathered from two different lab students: Which student has valid results? Justify your answer by stating the errors in the incorrect observation table. Suggest two reasons why a student may experience poor results during this type of chemical experiment.

Explanation / Answer

A)Student 1 has valid results

b)Reactivity of above metals is in order Ag<Pb<Ni<Zn.So for student 2 zinc and aqueous Ag didn't showed any reaction while actually grey colour Ag should have been deposited. Hence student 2 got wrong results.Similarly Aqueous Pb should have been displaced by Ni as nickel is more reactive than lead

c)Two reasons for wrong results could have been

1.Metals being used have already been exposed to other reactions and hence are in more stable forms of oxides or sulhides or carbonides which are unable to take part in reaction

2.Student might be using wrong solutions

3.Not taking enough time to wait for reaction as environmental conditions can slow down a reaction

4.Solutions being used are too dilute to offer good results
