Question
We are asked to estimate the molarity of an unknoown acid folowing 2 experimental titrations and their respective color end points.
in the quick trial we titrated 25.0mL of the unknown acid with NaOH, starting at 0mL on the buret we reached the color endpoint after 27.85 mL of NaOH had been added.
In the second slower more accurate trial we titrated 25.0mL of the unknown acid with NaOH, starting at 0mL on the buret we reached the color endpoint at 26.85mL of Base added..
From these two trials estimate the molarity of the unknown acid based on the amount of base added in each trail.
Explanation / Answer
We must know the molarity of NaOH ...to get molarity of Acid ;
Use Formula :
M1*V1 = M2* V2
M1 = Molarity of acid
V1 = Volume of Acid
M2 = Molarity of Base
V2 = Volume of Base
here V1 = 25 mL
assuming 1 M NaOH ...so M2 = 1 M
V2 = (27.85+26.85)/2 = 27.35 M
M1 = M2V2/V1 = 1.094 M
