Question
Why do you think the tectile (Meissner) corpuscies are located relatively close to the surface of the skin rather than deep within the dermis? An individual who suffers a strong blow to the head may end up with a detached retina that causes visual problems. Why do you think the retina easily detaches from the posterior wall of the eye? What structure normally holds the retina in place? Susan, a 67.year-old female, is experiencing ataxia, or poor muscle coordination. Doctors perform a neurological exam, and they find that Susan is not positive for the Romberg test. Describe what these findings suggest about the source of Susan's ataxia.Explanation / Answer
32 ans-Meissner's Corpuscles are the good examples of mechanoreceptors ( tiny receptors or nerve endings all over the body that sense touch and send the information to the brain according to the kind of tuch-burning, itching etc they are sensitive to light tuch) with moderate adaptation rates. These receptors located near the surface of the skin. Often used to sense insects landing on skin even with in 1 second .where as Pacinian corpuscles are also called the tuch receptors (another kind of mechanoreceptors )present deep in the dermis of the skin and various organ and in the hypodermis, which are sensitive to adopt quickly to chnage in stimulli.
34 ans- Romberg test provides function of the cerebellum, vision, and vestibular system. If found the romberg test for positive it indicate the Cerebellar or vestibular diseases includes s ataxia or poor muscles co-ordination from dorsal column disease and impaired proprioception (the ability to know one's body position in space)
In cerebellar ataxia If the eyes open, the balance is not good then this associated with cerebellum.
In vestibular or proprioceptive -closing eye cause worse balance this test will be the positive Romberg test
common cause of positive romberg test-
