Question
(a)The sol'n for adults should be 500.0 mg of amoxicillin per 5.0 ml. What is the molarity of this sol'n?
I found this to be ~.27M.
Part B) How much amoxicillin would you need to use to make .5L of the sol'n in part (a)? (in grams)
Part C) In the pharmacy you only have a 2 L volumetric flask. Adjust your calculation in part (b), so you can use the 2 L flask you have available.
Part D) Once you make the 1 L stock sol'n, you would have to make a diluted sol'n for children use. Using the stock sol'n, prepare a 100 mL solution, which has half the original concentration, namely half the concentration calculated in part (a). In one sentence describe briefly the procedure, and show all your calculations.
____
Please explain how to do this for best answer.
Explanation / Answer
Molarity = number of moles/volume of solution in litres
molar mass of amoxicillin is 365.4
no of moles = 0.5/365.4 = 0.00136
Molarity = 0.00136/0.005 = 0.2736 M
Molarity is 0.2736
B
0.2736 = no of moles/0.5
no of moles = 0.1368 moles
So in grams it will be = 0.1368 * 365.4 = 50 grams
C
for 2 litres we will requires = 50*4 = 200grams
D
1litre stock solution will require 100 gram of amoxicillin.
