Question
I need this question answered in terms that are more or less understandable, using terms related to general tropical soil and plant biology.... abiotic stress, turgor pressor, plasmodesmata, etc. and it needs to be a specific altered trait. Please help:
“You are breeding a new crop that is adapted to potential changes in climate. The changes expected include higher temperatures, higher levels of CO2, higher insect and disease pressure and more variable rainfall. From what has been covered in this course what physiological characteristics (traits) would you include in the breeding program? Explain why each physiological trait you have added would make the plant more adaptable to climate change.”
Explanation / Answer
Climate change effects on plant and pollinator physiology also may result in mismatches between flowering time and pollinator activity. Many plant species are emerging and reproducing earlier in the year due to increasing temperature and [CO2] while some species are delaying phenological events or are unresponsive to climate change
