Question
1. A frog biologist breeds true-breeding female frogs that have green bodies and red eyes with
true-breeding male frogs with yellow bodies and blue eyes. All male offspring have green
bodies and red eyes, all female offspring have yellow bodies and red eyes.
a) For each of the characters (body color and eye color), which trait is dominant? (1 point)
For each of the characters, are alleles autosomally inherited or sex-linked? (1 point)
b) Using your own clearly defined alleles, give the genotypes for the parent frogs (1 point) and the male and female offspring (1 point).
Explanation / Answer
a) yellow body colour and red eye colour is dominant over green body and blue eyes
This trait is sex linked inherited.yellow body colour is dominant and need omly one copy of allel to be expressed and green is recessive and can be express only when two copies of allel is presenr.the gene is present on X chromosome.so when a cross is made between green female ( X°X°) and yellow male (XY) the femal of f1 generation will be yellow in colour and male will be green in colour.
b) genotype of father will be XY and mother will be X°X° and of male child will be X°Y and female child will be X°X.
