This means that the muscle A. Shortens its length B. Recoils to its original resting length C. Stretches beyond its normal length D. Responds to stimulation by the nervous system E. Excites itself Each of the following is an example of an inorganic compound except one. Identify the exception. A. Water B. Acids C. Bases D. Salts E. Glucose Elements that have full outer shells of electron A. Will form many compounds B. Will normally form anions C. Will normally form cations D. Frequently form hydrogen bonds E. Are inert

Explanation / Answer

40. (D) Troponin is absent in smoot muscles. It is a calcium dependent regulator protein which regulates the contractions of tropomyosin in skeletal and cardiac muscles. This function is performed by calmodulin in smooth muscles by either altering the levels of Ca2+ in the cell and by activating the Myosin Light chain kinase, when bound to Ca2+.

41. (B) Isometric muscle contraction is the one in which a force is generated with no change in the length of the muscle. The two other types of muscle contractions are concentric - muscles shorten thereby generating force, eccentric - muscles elongate in response to a force.

42. (D) The lambdoial suture is a fibrous connective tissue connecting parietal bone with the occipetal bone.

43. (D) Muscle excitability, suggests that the muscle responds to stimulation by the nervous or endocrine system.

44. (E) Water is inorganic, inorganic examples of acids, bases and salts can be found in nature. Glucose (C6H12O6) is an organic molecule.

45. (E) Elements that have a full outer shells are usually inert, as they neither require electrons nor do they need to lose electrons to attain the lowest energy(highest stability) state.
