Include phases. Pb(CIO3)2(aq) +2Nal(aq) 2Nacio,(aq)+PbI2(s) What mass of precipitate will form if 1.50 L of highly concentrated Pb(CIOs)z is mixed with 0.150 L of 0.290 M Nal? Assume the reaction goes to completion Number SARISUN

Explanation / Answer

so 2 mlecules of NaI(aq) reacts with 1 molecule of Pb(ClO3)2(aq) to precipitate 1 molecule of PbI2(s).

we can understand from the question that the amount of NaI present( 0.150 L, 0.290 M) is well less than that of pb(ClO3)2 present (1.5 L, highly conc.). So we can say all of these NaI will react with equivalent amount of Pb(ClO3)2 to precipitate equivalent amount of PbI2(s).

Now, number of moles of NaI present in the medium = 0.15*.29 = 0.0435

again, per 2 molecules of NaI, 1 molecule of PbI2(s) gets precipitated

so, 0.0435 moles of NaI will lead to the precipitation of (0.0435/2) = 0.02175 moles of PbI2(s).

now molecular weight of PbI2(s) = 207+ 127*2 = 461

so 0.02175 moles of PbI2(s) = 10.03 gram
