Main conclusions of the 2013 IPCC Report on Climate Change are as follows:
The warming of the environment is undeniable.Majority of the rise in global temperature is because of human activity.The warming of the atmosphere is vastly irreversible.Most of the heat is leading to the warming of the oceans.The rate at which ocean acidification is taking place is not known.Extreme weather conditions are being witnessed due to climate change.So as to stay below 2oC of warming the world should reduce the load of carbon emmisions and consumption of fossil fuels should be reduced.
Causes of acid precipitation:
Acid rain is caused due to pollutants in the atmosphere produced by vehicles and industies.These pollutants mainly include nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide.These pollutants mix with the moisture in the atmosphere which leads to the production of acid, and reaches the earths surface as acid rain.Euption of volcanoes also causes acid rain. Burning of fossil fuels also produces emmisions leading to acid rain.
The main human activities responsible for acid rain are production of pollutants by factories, power generation units and vehicles.Burning of coal in power generation units leads to the production of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides which the main cause of acid rain.
effects of acid rain:
damage to aquatic life: acid rain leads to lowering of pH of aquatic environment. This effects fishes and aquatic plants.
Damge to the forests:Leaves and bark of trees are damaged due to acid rain.
damage to the soil: Acid rain alters the pH of the soil which hinders many biological activities.
damage to the vegetation.
damage to the buildings
damage to human health.
