Question
What effect would the following changes in concentration of reactants have on the rate of reaction? Do not discuss the effect these changes would have on the yield of product. Hint: Think about the reaction mechanism itself.
a. Doubling the concentration of 1-iodopropane in the reaction vessel. Assume that the total grams of 1-bromobutane stay the same.
b. Doubling the concentration of 2-naphthoxide in the reaction vessel.
c. Doubling both 2-naphthoxide and 1-iodopropane concentrations in the reaction vessel.
Explanation / Answer
a) by doubling the concentration rate also doubled. because with respect to 1-iodopropane reaction follows first order kinetics.
b) by doubling the concentration of 2-naphthoxide rate also doubled. because with respect to napthoxide reaction follows first order kinetics.
c) by doubling both the reactants rate increases by 4 times as overall reaction follows second order kinetics.
please check the option a) you might given wrong statement . because our reaction donot contain 1-bromobutane. it might be napthoxide instead of 1-bromobutane.
