Question 9 of 12 Map A sapling learning The total volume required to reach the endpoint of a titration required more than the 50 mL total volume of the buret. An initial volume of 49.73 t 0.04 mL was delivered, the buret was refilled, and an additional 1.55 t 0.05 mL was delivered before the endpoint was reached. The titration of a blank solution without the anal lyte required 0.48 t 0.04 mL. Calculate the endpoint volume corrected for the blank and its absolute uncertainty Note: Significant figures are graded for this Number Number problem. To avoid rounding errors, do not round your answers until the very end of mL your calculations.Explanation / Answer
Given,
Initial volume of NaOH added = 49.73 +/- 0.04 mL
maxima = 49.77 mL ; minima = 49.69 mL
Addition NaOH added = 1.55 +/- 0.05 mL
maxima = 1.60 mL ; minima = 1.50 mL
Blank reading = 0.48 +/- 0.04 mL
maxima = 0.52 mL ; minima = 0.44 mL
volume required from maxima volumes = 49.77 + 1.60 - 0.52 = 50.85 mL
Volume required from minima = 49.69 + 1.50 - 0.44 = 50.75 mL
So, corrected volume of NaOH to reach end point would be = (50.85 + 50.75)/2 = 50.80 mL
Absolute uncertainty = (50.85 - 50.75)/2 = 0.05 mL
So, the required volume of NaOH representation would be 50.80 +/- 0.05 mL
