Question
At what temperature would a mixture of 80% cyclohexane and 20% toluene boil at? What would be the approximate percent composition of the condensed vapor above this mixture? If you condensed some of this vapor:- at what temperature would it boil? - what would be the percent composition of the vapor I this case? If you condensed some of this vapor:- at what temperature would it boil? - what would be the percent composition of the vapor I this case?Explanation / Answer
first of all we need the boiling point of pure cyclohexane and pure toluene
Pure Cyclohexane = 80.74 *C
Pure Toluene = 110.6 *C
there the fractions are = 4/5 for cyclohexane and 1/5 for toluene
The boiling will occur at = 0.8*80.74 + .2*110.6 = 86.712*C
mole fraction of cyclohexane in vapour = (0.8*80.74)/86.712 = 0.7449
mole fraction of toluene = 0.2550
therefore the temp of the above mixture = 0.7449*80.74 + .2*0.2550 = 60.19*C
