Behavioral inhibition system (BIS) is a neuropsychological disorder that interprets an individual's response to anxiety-relevant cues in a given environment. This system is promoted at times of punishment, boring things, or negative events. High activity of BIS represents a heightened sensitivity towards nonreward or punishment. This results in a natural avoidance of environments such as fear, anxiety, frustration, and sadness in order to prevent negative experiences.
Behavioral activation system (BAS) is based on a model of hobbyistic motivation. In this case, an individual pursue and achieve goals. The BAS is sensitive to conditioned by appealing stimulus and is associated with impulsivity. It is also thought to be related to sensitivity to reward as well as approach motivation.
