Of tluxse under '.0 years age, six haw masters degrees. 11 a selection (nan among these 25 applicants is made at random, what is the probability that a person over age ol 30 or a person with a masters degree will be selected?Explanation / Answer
Among the 25 applicants, 10 are over the age of 30.
Therefore, P(greater than 30) is 10/25.
Among the 25 applicants, 8 has masters degree.
Therefore, P(master degree) is 8/25.
Six have master degrees thoese are under 30. Therefore, master degree those over the age of 30 is 2.
Therefore, P( greater than 30 and master degree) is 2/25.
So,
P(master degree) + P(master degree) - P( greater than 30 and master degree) = (10/25)+(8/25)-(2/25) = (16/25) = 0.64.
Hence, the probability that a person over 30 or a person with a master's degree will be selected is 0.64.
