Explanation / Answer

The dilution is still too concentrated and colonies formed from more than one bacterium. If we decrease the concentration to one-tenth of the initial concentration,then we will get 20-30 colonies on each plate.

293/10 = 29.3 colonies and 158/10 = 15.8 colonies, this is roughly 20 - 30 colonies on each plate.
